2021 WOW to focus on carbon neutrality
The World Ocean Week to be held next month in the port city of Xiamen, in East China's Fujian province will hold a series of events on China's ambitious climate goals – to peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.
1. Main forum
A main forum – themed on "A Ten-Year Outlook for Blue Carbon Contribution, Building a National Blue Carbon Research and Trading Center Based in Xiamen" – will take place at the WOW opening ceremony.

2. 2021 Blue Carbon International Forum
More than 20 experts will share their experiences in managing coastal blue carbon ecosystems for climate change mitigation and adaptation at the forum.
Through onsite participation and via online, they will explore the potential blue carbon ecosystem with nearly 100 representatives at home and abroad.
3. 2021 Island Ecological Protection International Forum
Global island research experts and administrators will participate onsite and online at the forum, to share advanced concepts and cases of island protection, restoration and management, as well as share global island development experiences.

4. Other related conferences
The 2021 PNLG-PNLC Seminar and the 2021 PEMSEA Network of Local Governments for Sustainable Coastal Development (PNLG) Annual Forum will explore advanced experiences in integrated coastal zone management during WOW.
The Workshop on Sustainable Oceans will invite domestic and foreign research experts to explore ocean and coastal zone options to achieve carbon neutrality strategic goals.
The Symposium on South China Sea Governance and Marine Sustainable Development will discuss the international ocean governance system.
The International Organic Synthesis Frontier Symposium aims to bring together well-known organic chemists, medicine synthesis experts, as well as marine chemistry and carbon neutrality experts. They will discuss new achievements in organic synthesis, energy conservation and environmental protection, marine medicine development and other fields.
The 2021 International Diving Salvage and Ocean Engineering Equipment Exhibition will show the new technology and new products of marine energy development and marine equipment manufacturing.
The Marine Culture Carnival in Xiamen Xiatanwei Mangrove Park will display examples of ocean carbon sequestration.
