About PNLG
PEMSEA Network of Local Governments for Sustainable Coastal Development (PNLG)
PEMSEA Network of Local Governments for Sustainable Coastal Development (PNLG) was officially founded in 2006. Launched by Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA), PNLG aims to promote the information exchange and experience sharing on the Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) among local governments and related institutions in the East Asian seas. PNLG holds the annual forums and related seminars every year, and organizes members to participate in training programs and activities provided by relevant institutions to improve understanding of ICM among its members.
In 2006, the PNLG Secretariat held office in Xiamen, managed by the PNLG Head of Secretariat. The Secretariat is responsible for organizing the annual meetings of PNLG, implementing and coordinating the requirements of the General Assembly, notifying members to participate in relevant activities, and representing PNLG in relevant meetings and activities. At the 2012 Annual Forum hosted by Changwon City, RO Korea, it was approved by the General Assembly that the PNLG Secretariat held office permanently in Xiamen. This is the first international marine organization secretariat set up in Xiamen, which fully reflects Xiamen's achievements in ICM practices.
As of 2022, the PNLG has 53 regular members in 10 countries in the East Asian Seas region, along with 4 associate members. With the expansion of membership, the concept of ICM has been recognized by more and more local governments and international organizations.
