World Ocean Week 2018 in Xiamen
The World Ocean Week 2018 in Xiamen (WOW 2018) was successfully held from Nov 2 to 8, 2018. As a local platform for international communication, WOW 2018 took the theme of "All Together for A Shared Sustainable Ocean", four major parts activities were involved to deepen the pragmatic cooperation with the countries along the 21st century maritime Silk Road and other developing countries and regions, actively build a blue community with a shared future for mankind and jointly build the 21st century marine Silk Road to achieve sustainable development of marine economy.

The 2018 World Ocean Week in Xiamen makes full use of Xiamen's location advantage as a strategic pivot city of the 21st century marine Silk Road to serve the Belt and Road Initiative. National strategies such as sustainable marine development and blue economic cooperation which put forward during APEC's 4th Marine Ministerial Conference, UN Ocean Congress, BRICS Summit and other international cooperation mechanisms have been demonstrated and implemented at World Ocean Week in Xiamen. The heads of International Cooperation Department and the Strategic Planning and Economics Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources, attended the 2018 Xiamen International Ocean Forum and delivered important speeches. The Bureau of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs issued the Development Report of Chinese Recreational Fishery for the first time. At the same time, Xiamen, as the settle place of China-ASEAN Marine Cooperation Center, has carried out a number of training programs, forums and exhibitions aimed at ASEAN countries during the World Ocean Week in Xiamen to further expand and deepen maritime cooperation with ASEAN countries, and build a closer community with a shared future for both China and ASEAN countries.
The contents of exhibitions during World Ocean Week 2018 in Xiamen are full and pragmatic, which intend to promote the development of marine economy. The exhibitions devoted to achieve accurate connection and two-way exchanges, and paid a lot attention on scientific results industrialization. The organizers of World Ocean Week in Xiamen tried hard to fully use the various activities to promote marine economy and strengthen communication between stakeholders. The Commercialization Fair for Marine Science and Technology Achievements 2018 focused on high-end marine science and technology, with the largest scale ever held. China (Xiamen) International Boat Show 2018 paid attention to practical information exchanges and promoted development of yacht industry through project docking and online exhibition. 11th China (Xiamen) International Recreational Fishery Expo 2018 focused on promoting new economic growth points such as leisure fishing villages, and boosting new momentum to drive development of marine economy.

The 2018 World Ocean Week in Xiamen commits to create a brand of marine tourism, enhance the regional marine cultural environment and public ocean consciousness. Through the integration of ocean and tourism, a series of high-quality and diversified activities were organized during this World Ocean Week. The organizers of World Ocean Week carefully integrated the marine characteristic elements of Xiamen's various districts and combined the ocean carnival activities to create a series of excellent tourist routes and brand products, which effectively promoted the marine tourism. Meanwhile, various forms of marine science popularization activities, such as the marine popular science tourism routes and the introduction of marine knowledge into the schools, have been launched to enhance the overall marine culture environment in Xiamen, display the charm of marine culture and enhance the public ocean consciousness.
The World Ocean Week 2018 in Xiamen includes 43 activities which can be categorized into four sectors, including the international ocean forums, ocean industry exhibitions, ocean carnival activities and the ocean popularization and marine culture science activities. Nearly 1,000 delegates attended the international forums, and the admissions to the various activities totaled more than 370,000.
