The Fisheries Research Institute of Fujian (FJSCS), founded in 1957, is a provincial marine and fishery research institute affiliated to the Fujian Provincial Department of Ocean and Fisheries. It is a non-profit, multi-disciplinary and comprehensive research facility with a complete range of aquatic disciplines, strong technical force, distinct disciplinary characteristics, and comprehensive scientific research ability.
The FJSCS's main research disciplines include marine biotechnology, marine cultivation and technology of new varieties, monitoring and prevention of aquatic disease, research and management of marine fisheries resources, management of fishery environments, fishery engineering and equipment, reconnaissance and feasibility research on marine engineering, marine functional zoning and marine space utilization, and integrated processing of aquatic products' quality and safety.
To meet the needs of scientific research and institute development, the FJSCS established several non-profit institutions, such as the Xiamen Aquatic Products Quality Monitoring Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, a national-level Marine Fish Processing Technology Research & Development Sub-center, and a Fujian dynamic monitoring station of fishery resources in the East China Sea.
Since its establishment, FJSCS has undertaken and completed more than 1,000 scientific research projects issued by the State and Fujian province. Nearly 300 research results have been recognized with ministerial and provincial technical appraisement, and have received more than 100 national and provincial awards since 1978. With its research achievements popularized and widely applied, the FJSCS is making great contributions to the development of China's marine and fishery economy.
