Huaqiao University (HQU) is a comprehensive university, directly under the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of China and jointly run by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Fujian Provincial People's Government. 

Engaging itself in international exchanges and cooperation, HQU has signed cooperation agreements with over 280 universities, research institutes and governments from 44 countries and regions in five continents. The university is one of the officially acknowledged universities that enroll international students funded by Chinese Government Scholarship. It now has 148 admissions offices across the globe.

The Institute of Thailand was selected as the international and regional studies center of the MOE, the Center of Malaysia Studies was selected as "the Belt and Road" international and regional studies center of the National Civil Affairs Commission, and the Institute of Overseas Chinese and the Institute of Urban Construction and Economic Development were selected as the key think tanks of Fujian province.
