Sino-France Workshop on Deep Sea Microbiology takes place in Xiamen
The Sino-France Workshop on Deep Sea Microbiology and IPR 1211 MicrobSea labmeeting took place both online and offline in Xiamen, East China’s Fujian province on Nov 14.
Under the guidance of Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Natural Resources of the PRC, the workshop was organized by the Third Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources of the People’s Republic of China, the Centre national de la recherche scientifique, France and the Université de Bretagne Occidentale, France and co-organized by Xiamen Marine International Cooperation Center.
In the workshop, the Sino-French researchers from the LIA-MICROBSEA focused on the frontiers of deep sea microbiology, conducting in-depth discussions on the acquisition of deep sea microbial resources, the metabolic mechanism of deep sea viruses and microbes as well as other scientific issues.
Based on mutual advantages in resources and the achievements of preliminary cooperation, both sides worked out follow-up plans for cooperation, exchanges, and the application of cooperative programs.
This workshop could help analyze the cognition of life process in deep sea, promoting the cooperation between China and France within the framework of new treaty negotiations for Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ), supporting both countries in capacity-building for the sustainable use of genetic resources of microorganisms, and enhancing the capacity of both countries to protect marine biodiversity and environment.
