2022 World Ocean Week in Xiamen to be held Nov 10-16
The 2022 World Ocean Week (WOW) in Xiamen is scheduled to be held in the city of Xiamen in East China’s Fujian province, from November 10 to 16, according to the Secretariat of WOW .
Themed “New Engine of Blue Development for the Maritime Community with a Shared Future”, this year’s WOW will focus on science and innovation-driven blue actions and international cooperation, as well as the development of blue economy, marine ecological progress, marine culture communication and blue partnership building.
Accordingly, the week-long WOW will consist of three parts: ocean forums, ocean exhibitions, and ocean carnival activities, with 40 online and offline activities. A total of 16 international organizations will be part of 2022 WOW.
Ocean Forums
Co-hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources of the People's Republic of China, the Xiamen Municipal People's Government, Xiamen University, and organized by the Secretariat of World Ocean Week , the opening ceremony of the 2022 World Ocean Week in Xiamen and 2022 Xiamen International Ocean Forum will be held at the Xiamen International Conference Center Hotel on November 10.
The Seminar on China-Russia Marine Science and Technology Cooperation will invite marine experts from both countries to share their insights in marine sustainable development. The Blue Partnership Round-table Conference will invite marine experts from BRICS countries to discuss the building of blue partnership. The Seminar on Blue Economy for the Indian Ocean Rim Association Countries will invite participants from BRICS countries to deepen the exchange and cooperation between “BRICS Plus” countries.
The China-Island Countries High-level Forum on Ocean Cooperation will invite island countries to discuss topics on “eco-island and blue development”.
The 17th PEMSEA Network of Local Governments (PNLG) Annual Forum will step up the implementation of the “PNLG Strategic Action Plan 2022-2030”.
The China-Malaysia Intentional Seminar on “the Belt and Road: Maritime Silk Road” aims to enhance the cultural exchange and cooperation between China and Malaysia and promote the construction of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.
The First Xiamen Summit Forum on Innovation and Development of Marine Emerging Industries will focus on the development experience and future trend of the marine industry.
As the leading trend in the industry, the 2022 China Seafood Summit will be splendid, featuring 10 sub-events at the same time.
The 2nd Chinese Ocean Culture Xiamen Forum, a marine cultural exchange platform, will consist of four sub-forums, telling ocean-related stories of Minnan area and Xiamen city.
Ocean Exhibitions
The 15th China (Xiamen) International Boat Show will feature both online and offline events. Approximately 230 companies are expected to take part in this year's boat show, displaying 530 products. Meanwhile, top experts will be invited to join the online forum, so as to develop the boat show as an international communication platform.
The 5th International Diving Salvage and Marine Engineering Equipment Exhibition aims to integrate global resources and boost cooperation from home and abroad. The 7th China Diving and Salvage Contractors Association Summit and the 2022 China Tourism Diving Summit will be held during the same period, to discuss trending topics in the industry.
Ocean Carnival
The 2nd Chinese Ocean Culture Xiamen Forum will be held both at Xiamen University and Gulangyu Island. An art exhibition themed “Blue Dream” is scheduled to be held in Aotou, Xiang'an District.
In addition, 11 ocean carnival activities including boat fishing competition, art exhibition, Gezi Opera performance, science popularization competition, marine science open day, youth marine carnival and kite festival will be unveiled during the long-week event.
Since 2005, the World Ocean Week has been held for 16 years, attracting the participation of nearly 1,000 officials and experts from more than 130 countries and regions and 20 major international groups, with over 2 million visitors.
