China to host main events for World Oceans Day in Xiamen
The comprehensive management of Yundang Lake in Xiamen marked the beginning of the systematic restoration of marine ecology in China, Wang Guanghua, Minister of Natural Resources, said in an exchange meeting recently held in Xiamen on promoting China’s ecological restoration of territorial space based on the bay city's successful practice of ecological governance.
With 36 years of relentless efforts, the management of Yundang Lake has set a successful example of integrated coastal management at home and abroad, which also made Xiamen as a leading role in the high-quality development of global bay cities.
To date, Xiamen has received a series of international awards and honors for its green development, such as the International Award for Liveable Communities, the UN Habitat Scroll of Honor Award and Award for Excellence in Sustaintable Development of Coastal Areas through Integrated Coastal Management.
According to the meeting, the main events for this year’s World Oceans Day and China's National Ocean Awareness Day are scheduled to be held in Xiamen, which fall on June 8.
A variety of activities will be held during the event, including an international seminar themed on "Xiamen Practice" that aims to further promote China’s experience and solutions in the ecological governance of bay cities to the world.
