Fujian Institute of Oceanography completes 12 China aid training programs in 2023
From March to November 2023, Fujian Institute of Oceanography (FJIO) organized 12 China aid training programs that were sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of China.
A total of 382 government officials and technicians from 36 developing countries across the world participated in the training. Among them, participants from Kiribati, the Cook Islands, and the Solomon Islands attended the training in Xiamen for the first time.
In recent years, the demand of developing countries for capacity-building in marine field has been expanded from aquaculture, fisheries management, and integrated coastal management to marine spatial planning, ocean observation technology, ocean management and blue economy development, delimitation of continental shelf, and more.
To meet the demands of recipient countries, FJIO carried out extensive cooperation with sea-related research institutes at home, offering a series of activities such as lectures, communication and exchanges, and field visits, which were all closely related to the training topics.
On the basis of the China aid platform, Fujian Institute of Oceanography has fully integrated foreign aid training with the international cooperation between ocean-related government departments and professional research institutes in China and other developing countries.
Since it undertook the training program in 2005, FJIO has organized 148 China aid training programs, training a total of over 4,400 participants.
These training programs have played a great role in helping recipient countries build their marine capacity, promoting exchanges and mutual learning in marine fields among countries, strengthening international marine cooperation, and boosting connectivity of governments, scientific and technological circles, international organizations, and sea-related enterprises between China and other developing countries.
