PNLG Annual Forum 2023 opens in Xiamen
The 2023 PEMSEA Network of Local Governments for Sustainable Coastal Development (PNLG) Annual Forum opened in Xiamen, east China's Fujian province on November 9, 2023.
Themed “Developing Coastal Cities, Fostering Blue Partnership”, this year's forum was attended by nearly 130 participants including the delegates from 23 PNLG member local governments and four PNLG associate members across seven countries of Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, RO Korea, and Timor-Leste, as well as experts and scholars from ocean-related institutions and organizations.
During the General Assembly, Dr. Chua Thia-Eng, Chair Emeritus of Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA), delivered a keynote speech on PNLG’s history and development.
The PEMSEA Resource Facility briefed the implementation progress of the PNLG Strategic Action Plan, calling on local governments in East Asian Seas region to enhance cooperation in marine litter management, promoting sustainable coastal development.
The four-day event also includes a technical workshop in which topics of marine pollution management and prevention, eco-system restoration, blue economy building and ocean city construction will be discussed.
In addition, a field trip will also be held to display Xiamen’s achievements in implementing integrated coastal management.
