The Fisheries Branch of the Association for Agricultural Exchange Across the Taiwan Straits (hereinafter referred to as fisheries branch) was officially inaugurated in Xiamen, East China’s Fujian province on June 17.
The fisheries branch aims to further deepen cross-strait fishery industry match-making, economic and trade cooperation and personnel exchanges, as well as to promote the integrated development of fisheries across the Straits.
Established in 2001, the Association for Agricultural Exchange Across the Taiwan Straits is an important platform for exchanges and cooperation across the Straits.
It is said that the fisheries branch will carry out a wide range of cooperation and exchange activities in such fields as fishery technology, culture, trade, business and law enforcement.
Higher institutions, research centers and sea-related enterprises from both sides will jointly organize seminars and field trips, so as to promote advanced fishery technology and management experience.
In accordance with the development needs of cross-strait fisheries, conferences and exhibitions will be held to attract investment and promote the processing trade of aquatic products.
In recent years, Xiamen has been committed to promoting the integrated development of cross-strait fisheries industry.
Since 2015, Xiamen and Kinmen have jointly organized fish-release activities to protect marine biodiversity in the waters across the Taiwan Straits.
The annual World Ocean Week in Xiamen and the Xiamen Recreational Fishing Aquarium Expo also play an active role in strengthening cooperation in fishery economy, technology and culture across the Straits.
The coastal city also supports close academic exchanges and talent training among universities and research insitutions from Xiamen and Taiwan.
In the future, Xiamen will continue to promote the development of the Xiamen Marine High-tech Industrial Park and the Xiamen Fishing Port Economic Circle, creating an important platform for the development of Taiwan-related fisheries.
