Xiamen explores new ways of marine culture popularization
The Xiamen Marine Culture and Popularization Forum and the Promotional Seminar on the Public Service Platform for the Collaborative Innovation and Industrialization of Ornamental Marine Species was held in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province on February 24.
At the forum, representatives of sea-related enterprises and institutions in Xiamen put their heads together to discuss how to mobilize resources and make full use of the city's advantages in marine research, industry and talents in the all-media era to develop quality marine culture and popularization projects with local characteristics.
Based on its scientific prowess, the College of Ocean and Earth Sciences, Xiamen University transformed its research results into exhibition and educational resources, providing local primary and middle schools with quality services for science popularization, said Zhang Zhaoxia, deputy director of the Museum of Marine Science and Technology, Xiamen University.
Lin Hongjie, founder of Unkown Lab, a marine science popularization brand, said by offering online and offline lectures, developing courses, and sharing videos on short-video platforms, science popularization workers could serve as a medium between marine experts and the public as well as between the nature and the public, establishing a circle of friends for marine science popularization.
At the promotional event, the Public Service Platform signed an agreement with Xiamen Poseidon Marine Tourism and Xiamen Jingtan Research Base for Marine Science Popularization.
Wang Shuhong, a professor at the Fisheries College of Jimei University and the director of the Public Service Platform, said the marine tourism program would integrate marine leisure tourism with the elements of marine science popularization while the research center would leverage its advantages in marketing and work together with the service platform to develop research courses.
From offering free marine culture courses to building research bases, from the upgrade of Museum of Marine Science and Technology, Xiamen University to the publication of Xiamen marine culture series, the coastal city of Xiamen is always doing its best to break new ground in marine culture popularization.
The event was hosted by the Special Committee of Xiamen Municipal Ocean and Fisheries Society on Marine Culture and Popularization and Jimei University Education Base for Ornamental Marine Species and organized by the Secretariat of Xiamen Southern Oceanographic Center.
