China-Island Countries High-level Forum on Ocean Cooperation Held
Themed "Eco-Island, Blue Development", the two-day China-Island Countries High-level Forum on Ocean Cooperation kicked off in Pingtan City of southeast China’s Fujian province on November 9.
Wang Hong, vice minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Administrator of the State Oceanic Administration, and Lin Wenbin, vice governor of Fujian province, attended the forum and delivered keynote speeches.
Supported by Administrative Committee of Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone of Fujian Province, Island Research Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources, China Oceanic Development Foundation, the forum was hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the People's Government of Fujian province and co-organized by Xiamen Marine International Cooperation Center.
The forum, held both online and offline, was attended by nearly 180 experts and scholars from island countries, international organizations, research institutions and universities.
Topics centering on climate change, economic recovery and development, protection and restoration of marine ecosystem, monitor and early warning of marine disaster, blue economy, marine technology and capacity building were fully discussed. A important document "Island Sustainable Development Initiative" was also released at the forum.
This forum has enhanced and expanded the scope of cooperation between China and the island countries. All parties will actively implement the "Island Sustainable Development Initiative" to build the blue partnership, deepen cooperations in fields of marine economic development, marine scientific research, marine disaster prevention and marine ecological protection, with joint efforts to realize goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
