Forum calls for jointly promoting technological innovation in shipping
The 2022 Cross-Strait & Hongkong and Macao Forum on Coordinated Development of Science and Technology in Shipping Industry took place on Nov 15 in Jimei University in Xiamen, East China’s Fujian province.
As one of the supporting activities of the 2022 World Ocean Week in Xiamen, the forum was held both online and offline.
Near 300 professionals, academics and business representatives from Hong Kong, Macao and both sides of the Taiwan Straits were invited to explore new opportunities for the coordinated development of scientific and technological innovation in the shipping industry, offering suggestions on promoting the high-quality development of the industry.
The forum was hosted by China Institute of Navigation, organized by Jimei University and Wuhan University of Technology, with the support of Fujian Navigation Institute and Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Ocean Development.
At the forum, Zheng Heping, vice-chairman of China Institute of Navigation, delivered an address in which he made four proposals for the coordinated development of science and technology in shipping industry in Hong Kong, Macao, and both sides of the Straits.
Additionally, seven leading personages from the industry gave keynote speeches on hotspot issues of shipping technology.
The participants agreed that communication and cooperation could help the two sides of the Straits, Hong Kong and Macao SAR take full advantage of their innovation in shipping technology.
They suggested that all parties should work together on the integration of innovative resources, the mutual complementarity of innovative advantages, as well as on building a system for technological innovation and personnel training, in order to inject stronger impetus into the shipping industry.
