2022 World Ocean Week in Xiamen kicks off on Nov 10
Themed “New Engine of Blue Development for the Maritime Community with a Shared Future”, the opening ceremony of the 2022 World Ocean Week in Xiamen and 2022 Xiamen International Ocean Forum was officially unveiled in Xiamen, East China’s Fujian province on November 10.
The opening ceremony was held both online and offline. The officials and representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources of the People's Republic of China, State Oceanic Administration, the People's Government of Fujian Province, and Xiamen Municipal People's Government attended the ceremony and delivered opening remarks.
Meanwhile, ten international guests from the United Nations and related international organizations also took part in the event delivered opening remarks and keynote speeches online.
During the opening ceremony, the 2022 "Ocean Figures" Learning and Publicity Activity, hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources of the People's Republic of China, was launched. The event aimed to promote front-line marine workers and reflect the spirit of the era.
The 2022 China Ocean Development Index Report was released at the same time. Based on the comprehensive assessment of China's marine economic development, ecological environment, science and technology innovation, and maritime security, the report will help provide insights in economic and social development.
At the 2022 Xiamen International Ocean Forum, a keynote speech with the theme of "Take an Active Part in Global Ocean Governance to Promote the Building of a Maritime Community with a Shared Future" was delivered. It is worth mentioning that four industry experts were invited to share their insights and experiences, centering on the topics of high-end marine equipment, biological medicine and blue economy development.
Accordingly, WOW 2022 consists of three parts: ocean forums, ocean exhibitions, and ocean carnival activities, with 40 online and offline activities. A total of 16 international organizations and approximately 800 enterprises will be involved during the WOW 2022.
A wide range of supporting activities will be held during the weeklong event, including the 5th International Diving Salvage and Marine Engineering Equipment Exhibition, the 15th China (Xiamen) International Boat Show, as well as the 2022 Xiamen Recreational Boat Fishing Invitational Tournament, 70.8 Marine Science Communication Summit Forum, Ocean Science Open Day, and the 14th Xiamen International Kite Festival.
