Xiamen holds online ocean health conference
The "Ocean Super Year-2021 Global Progress in Ocean Health" conference was held online on Nov 18 during World Ocean Week in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province.
The conference was supported by the World Economic Forum and Friends of Ocean Action.
Chen Danhong, deputy head of the department of international exchange & cooperation of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Peter Thomson, the UN secretary-general's special envoy for the ocean and Kristian Teleki, global director of Friends of Ocean Action all gave speeches.
The conference took stock of discussions and progress on oceans at three major global gatherings and explored how to further promote and accelerate ocean action in an international context.
During the discussion section, 11 guests from the First Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources and National Ocean Technology Center, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the World Wide Fund for Nature, the World Wildlife Fund and Environmental Defense Fund debated the urgent need to strengthen action on ocean health.
