An exchange and investment promotional event for the marine biopharmaceutical industry was held in Xiamen, East China’s Fujian province on June 8 to mark the 2026 World Oceans Day and China Ocean Day.

As one of the matchmaking activities in the marine industry salon series, the event gathered representatives from the government, marine industry, research institutions and financial sectors, to discuss the high-quality development of the marine biopharmaceutical industry.

Recently, the Guiding Opinions on Accelerating the High-Quality Development of Marine Drugs and Functional Products (hereinafter referred to as “the Guiding Opinions”), the first policy document supporting the development of the marine biopharmaceutical industry in China, was released.

As a key initiative to implement the Guiding Opinions, this event aimed to facilitate policy interpretation and accelerate the in-depth integration of marine scientific and technological innovation with industrial innovation.

Wang Yu, Director General of the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Ocean Development, delivered a keynote speech at the event.

He stated that Xiamen is committed to developing a global marine biopharmaceutical industrial cluster through policy formulation, project implementation, integration of science and industry, industrial clustering, and platform building. He also expressed the hope that the event would boost the high-quality development of the marine economy.

During the achievement sharing and investment promotion session, Zhang Chao, Senior Engineer of the Third Institute of Oceanography, shared an in-depth interpretation of the background and core essence of the Guiding Opinions, and demonstrated the progress and application outcomes of the Marine Drugs and Biological Products Industry Intelligence Platform. 

The Third Institute of Oceanography signed cooperation agreements with Ronzyme Group, Xiamen Luyue Health, and Fustine (Xiamen) Commodity Co., LTD, respectively, aiming to accelerate the transformation and application in the fields of marine drugs, health foods and daily chemical products.

It is noted that experts from renowned organizations such as the National Marine Data and Information Service, the National Ocean Technology Center, and the Institute of Seawater Desalination and Multipurpose Utilization, Ministry of Natural Resources (Tianjin) were invited to share their experiences in advancing strategic emerging marine industries, offering insights into the development of the marine biopharmaceutical industry in terms of policy, technology, layout and information sharing.

The event was hosted by the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Ocean Development and jointly organized by the Third Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources (TIO) and the Fujian Ocean Innovation Center.
