A Sub-forum on Marine Technology and Engineering & Workshop on Sustainable Oceans, held as part of the 2025 Maritime Silk Road International Conference on the Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education and Application was held in Xiamen, East China’s Fujian province, on November 7.

The event drew over 240 participants from more than ten countries and regions, including Egypt, Timor-Leste, France, Malaysia, the United States, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, and China, to explore how marine sci-tech innovation facilitates sustainable coastal development.  

During the opening ceremony, the International Collaboration Network for Sustainable Coastal Development (SCD Network) was jointly signed by twelve founding institutions of the SCD Network.

Initiated by Sustainable Coastal Development Capacity-Building Research Lab (SCD Lab), the network aims to enhance scientific collaboration, capacity building, and policy dialogue to tackle climate change and ecological degradation.

The keynote speech session featured four leading experts from home and abroad. In addition, the forum included four parallel sessions covering technological innovation in coastal management, sustainable aquaculture, marine observation and detection, and high-quality publication and dissemination of marine scientific and technological achievements.

Through in-depth discussion, the forum strengthened interdisciplinary dialogue and international cooperation, generating new pathways for science-driven ocean governance and sustainable blue economy development.
