The Annual Conference of China Marine Protection Alliance 2025 was held in Xiamen, East China’s Fujian province on November 5.

The conference brought together nearly 100 representatives from research institutes, universities, government agencies, and social organizations to exchange insights on marine protection and sustainable fisheries.

In his keynote speech, Dai Minhan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and chair professor of marine environmental science at Xiamen University, noted that coastal states need to balance high-level conservation with high-quality development and advance blue carbon initiatives and land-sea coordination.

The conference featured two thematic forums focusing on marine protected areas (MPAs) and sustainable fisheries. Participants shared insights on spatial planning, resilience enhancement, and combating illegal fishing, calling for stronger cross-sector collaboration.

During the conference, participants formulated key action recommendations, including improved project coordination, capacity building, international communication, and diversified funding mechanisms.
