World Ocean Week 2019 in Xiamen
The World Ocean Week 2019 in Xiamen (WOW 2019) was successfully held at Xiamen, Fujian province on Nov 1-7, 2019. This year's WOW was hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Xiamen Municipal People's Government, Xiamen University, the United Nations Development Programme in China (UNDP China) and Partnership in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA), supported by East China Sea Bureau of Ministry of Natural Resources and other 14 units, and organized by the Secretariat of World Ocean Week in Xiamen, the Third Institute of Oceanography, MNR and Fujian Institute of Oceanography. This year's event has been highly valued by the leaders of the state, province and municipality. Mr.Wang Hong, Member of the Party Leadership Group of the Ministry of Natural Resources Administrator of the State Oceanic Administration (SOA), PR. China and Mr. Li Dejin, Vice Governor of Fujian Provincial People's Government attended the opening ceremony and delivered remarks. Moreover, Mr.Zhuang Jiahan, mayor of Xiamen Municipal People's Government attended the opening ceremony and Mr.Zhang Yigong, vice mayor of Xiamen, chaired the ceremony. More than 1500 officials, experts, scholars and entrepreneurs from 49 countries on6 continents attended the forum, including representatives from six international organizations including UNDP China, PEMSEA. China-ASEAN Center, UNESCO-IOC, six Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and entrepreneurs from eight central enterprises -- China Communications Construction Company, China National Offshore Oil Corporation, China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited. Among them, there are more than 300 foreign delegates and two ministers, which renewed the record of the event.
With the theme of "Blue Partnership for a Maritime Community with a Shared Future", WOW 2019 launched a new marine activities model which combines the exhibition, forum, investment promotion, science popularization and tourism. It focuses on marine industry docking and international communication, which deepens the marine communication and cooperation between China and BRI countries, including ASEAN countries.
Deepening international marine cooperation, serving the construction of the Belt and the Road Initiative and the Maritime Community with a Shared Future.
Eight international ocean forums were held during this year's WOW. Well known marine experts at home and abroad have made dialogues on the topics, such as global ocean governance, ocean spatial planning, international marine cooperation, establishment of marine partnership, formulation of marine standards and so on. They raised fruitful policy advices to promote marine development and the construction of marine community with a shared future. In the PNLG annual forum, Xiamen's integrated coastal management experience was recognized by the international community, a Marine Debris Prevention Initiative was launched, which enhance the sustainable development of East Asia Sea. Biological Diversity Beyond Areas of National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) Academic Seminar offered intelligent support and negotiation suggestion for China in the 4th intergovernmental negotiation in 2020.

Focusing on marine industry cooperation and commercialization, promoting investment in marine industry.
Marine professional exhibitions were host during the event, including the 6th Xiamen Commercialization Fair for Marine Science and Technology Achievements, the l2th China (Xiamen) International Recreational Fishery and Aquarium Expo, International Diving Salvage and Marine Engineering Equipment Exhibition 2019 and China (Xiamen) International Boat Show 2019, The exhibitions focused on marine high-tech achievements and plays the leading role as national marine economic development demonstration zone, The China-ASEAN Marine and Fishery Industry Matchmaking Symposium enhanced the cooperation among countries. Xiamen University Marine and Fishery Scientific and Technological Achievements Symposium offered a platform tor university and enterprises, which engines the development of industry-university cooperation mechanism. Entrepreneurship Project Roadshow and Marine Industry Capital Matchmaking symposium opened on the channel between investment and financing institutions in marine industry. A total of 24 projects with a intended investment amount exceeds four billion yuan were signed at the symposium.

Innovating the form and content of marine culture, promoting the marine awareness education of citizen.
Five marine characteristic tourism routes were released, and marine science popularization activities were deeply integrated with Marine Carnival.70.8 Marine Media Laboratory, the first marine media laboratory in China, was set up to promote the popularization and theoretical innovation of marine science. The "Tic Tok in Xiamen 2.0" Carnival Event led the trend of "new coastal life". New media forms, such as Tic Tok and Sina Online Live Broadcast, were introduced to further popularize marine awareness education. International marine sport competitions, such as the Asian Sports Kite Championship and the Chinese-Russian Youth Sailing Match, were host to strengthen the marine awareness and the international exchange of marine culture.
The 2019 World Ocean Week in Xiamen includes more than 60 activities which can be categorized into three sectors, including the international ocean forums and sub forums, ocean exhibitions and matchmaking symposium, and ocean carnival activities. More than 1,500 delegates attended the international forums, and the admissions to the various activities totaled more than 400,000, more than 100 million people participated in the online activities. Among them, there are more than 300 foreign guests, which reached a new record.
