World Ocean Week 2017 in Xiamen
The World Ocean Week 2017 in Xiamen (WOW) was successfully held on Nov 3 to 9 at Haicang district in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, with the guidance and support from the State Oceanic Administration (SOA) and Xiamen Municipal Government, as well as 33 co-organizers such as Fujian Provincial Department of Oceans and Fisheries, Xiamen University, Fujian Institute of Oceanography, UNDP China, Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA).
Themed as "Global Ocean Governance for Blue Economy", 2017 WOW focus on the sustainable development of marine economy, the communication and integration of marine culture and the deep cooperation among China and the countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.

Building an influential platform for marine cooperation by leveraging the influence of BRICS Xiamen Summit and exploring the opportunities along 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road.
SOA initiates China's participation in global ocean governance and building blue partnership through WOW, and adopted WOW as its propaganda platform for "Vision for Maritime Cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative". The number of international organizations and countries participating in has been on the rise. In particular, more and more countries send high-level officials to deepen their communications and discussions on international cooperation which has effectively enhanced the brand influence and scale of WOW.
Focusing on industry connection to enhance the actual effect, making the exhibitions to be the important tools for promoting blue economy.
This year, WOW paid more attention on business communication and cooperation, match-making, commercialization so as to promote the development of marine economy. In the 10th China (Xiamen) International Boat Show, the sales of small and medium boats hit a new record. The 10th China (Xiamen) International Recreational Fishery and Aquarium Expo focused on the recreational fishery development and promoted the transformation and upgrading the fishery industry in Xiamen. The 2017 International Underwater Operations & Offshore Industry Expo, the 2017 Commercialization Fair for Marine Science and Technology Achievement and Promotional Symposium of Fishing Village fully demonstrated the current marine economy in different fields as well, like the latest products and technological achievements which are from small commodities, technical achievements transactions to large-scale investment projects.
Hosting Ocean Carnival to encourage public participation, setting up a new business format of 'ocean + tourism'.
Based on the original marine culture activities of Guanyinshan, Wuyuan Bay and Haicang district, WOW launched the "Ocean Carnival" to actively promote Xiamen's city image in the form of "Ocean+ Tourism". At the same time, a series of marine science popularization activities were held, adhered to popularizing knowledge of marine science and spread marine culture, guiding the public to establish the concept of modern ocean, enhancing the marine awareness, showing the marine charm of Xiamen and promoting the development of tourism.

A total of nine international forums and seven bilateral meetings were held, one important bilateral document was signed, and marine exhibitions, marine cultural activities and a series of marine carnival activities, a total of 42 major activities were held. More than 2,000 representatives and 200,000 citizens were involved in WOW.
