2020 World Ocean Week in Xiamen
The World Ocean Week in Xiamen (WOW) was successfully held in Xiamen, Fujian province, which was hosted by Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), Xiamen Municipal People's Government, Xiamen University, United Nations Development Programme in China (UNDP China) and Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA), supported by 16 units, such as East China Sea Bureau of MNR, and organized by the Secretariat of World Ocean Week in Xiamen. As a local platform for international marine exchange, this WOW was devoted to integrating the national strategy with local development demand. With the theme of "Ocean, Health and Sustainability - A New Voyage to Blue Development", this WOW contained three sessions including ocean forums, ocean exhibitions and ocean carnival activities. It effectively promoted marine dialogue at home and aboard, strengthened the marine ecological development, engined the development of marine economy, deepened the communication of marine culture and improved the humanity's well-being.
Building and consolidating a professional platform for marine exchange and dialogue.
A total of 11 meetings were held, attracting representatives from 16 countries such as Canada, Chile, Peru, the Philippines, Russia and Malaysia, and more than 10 international organizations such as UNDP China, Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA) and the World Economic Forum (WEF). Representatives from home and abroad participated in the conferences through online or offline channels to discuss plans and build consensus on sustainable marine development, blue partnership principles, marine ecological cooperation and marine spatial planning.

Fully integrating local marine high-quality development demands.
A series of significant policies were launched to strengthen the support for the marine industry. There 25 marine investment attraction and science and technology innovation projects were signed during WOW and Marine Development Conference with an investment amount of nearly 30 billion yuan. Marine professional exhibitions were also hosted during the event, including the Xiamen Commercialization Fair for Marine Science and Technology Achievements, the Xiamen International Seafood Exhibition, the China (Xiamen) International Recreational Fishery and Aquarium Expo, China (Xiamen) International Boat Show and the Seafood Festival. The exhibitions achieved a total area of 50,000 square meters, more than 400 exhibitors, attracting nearly 100,000 professional merchants and citizens.

Comprehensively enhancing citizen's marine protection awareness.
For the first time, "Blue Dream" International Contemporary Art Exhibition, and "Protecting Mangroves to Build Ecological Beauty" Xiatanwei Marine Culture Carnival were held during WOW. These marine cultural activities were warmly welcomed by citizens and students due to their various display forms and vivid popularization method of science. Xiamen International Kite Festival, Youth Sailing Match, Ocean Science Open Day and other classic activities once again triggered public participation enthusiasm. The ocean carnival activities attracted total 260,000 participants, which further popularized marine science knowledge, bridged the gap between researchers and the public, continuously improved people's awareness to protect ocean environment.
